In 1896, a young man named Wilfred J. Dufdug emigrated from the country of lower Schlagmaniia (now call Yugomacatan) and cam to America. His life's possessions were meager at best, the torn and soiled clothes on his back, a pocket watch that ran slow, his tarnished spectacles, and a dream. A dream that helped him through the first few years living on the street of Dubuque, Iowa. a dream that woke him every day, like a cold wet slap in the face, a dream that rocked him to bed like a baby with hiccups, a dream he couldn't forget like the sweet smell of wildflowers from his homeland of Schlagmaniia. That dream was to become the best darn Phrenologist the world has ever seen. So pursue that dream he did. He entered Franklin University in Franklin, Kentucky in the fall of 1900 and graduated with honors in Phrenology and Pre-calisthenics. Upon his graduation he quickly opened his own practice above a diner in downtown Franklin. At first his practice flourished as his patients would arrive by train and bus from all parts of the U.S., but after 2 years of success and prosperity his practice quickly failed. Some blamed it on the economy, some blamed it on the outdated practice of Phrenology as a whole.

While his practice floundered the Doctor spent more and more of his time in the diner below, cooking, eating, drinking, cooking, eating, drinking. Then one day the owner of the diner, a kindly old man, and former Olympian named Karl, died unexpectedly from overexertion while plucking an unusually large chicken. Well . . . Much to his surprise, the owner, Karl, left the diner and all of it's contents, including an odd collection of paintings and prints, to the Doctor.

Now although his chosen path had changed considerably, the Doctor was not disappointed nor dissuaded by his odd change of luck, he instead took charge of the diner, gave the staff a raise, fired them all, rehired them all at their original pay, and worked to make his diner one of the best in town. "Good service, good food, and a fair price, in a friendly room." That was his mantra, as it is our today.

"Doc", as the guests referred to him, is gone now, rest his soul, but his words still live on here at Doc's. We've opened this restaurant in his name to carry on the simple concept, which rings as true now as it did almost 100 years ago. We will try our best at providing you with good food at a fair price, and a staff that will accommodate your reasonable, and sometimes otherwise, wishes in an environment that will grow into more and more of a warm, and comfortable space as soon as we can afford it.
