The Baldpate Inn is proud to share its broad range of outstanding features: Spectacular location, unique background, charming bed & breakfast accommodations, Award-winning dining rooms, and unparalleled collections. Location: A classic mountain getaway, Baldpate is located seven miles south of Estes Park, Colorado on the designated scenic Peak to Peak Highway Colorado Route 7. Our setting is nestled in the pine forest on the side of Twin Sisters Mountain, next to Lily Lake Visitors Center of Rocky Mountain National Park. Our Inn's spacious front porch and many of our rooms command a most spectacular view of the area from the clear crisp altitude of 9000 feet. Baldpate has often been featured on TV's DISCOVERY Channel, first in December 1993 as part of the story of early vacation travel, call The Frontier, since 1995 as part of the American Odyssey video series, and again in 1996-1997 on the Homematters program. We are proud to note in January 1996 The Baldpate Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Background: First opening in 1917, the lodge is built from native hand-hewed timber and includes five native stone fireplaces. Named after the mystery novel, Seven Keys to Baldpate, our Inn boasts a colorful and legendary background. During its over 80 years of operation, Baldpate has provided the setting for several film productions including the TV mini-series Centennial. Because of early Hollywood connections, Baldpate has lodged many famous folks over the years. In our historic guest registers you will find the signatures of Mae West, Jack Dempsey, Betty Grable, and Gregory Peck, just to name a few. Please see the August 1991 issue of COUNTRY LIVING, October 1993 issue of FORBES, Summer 1995 issue of INDEPENDENCE, and Summer 1999 issue of HISTORIC TRAVELER magazines for their features on Baldpate. Accommodations: The Baldpate Inn offers a unique bed and breakfast experience for mountain visits during the summer and fall. As a small family operated mountain lodge, casual hospitality is our hallmark. Our twelve guest rooms and four cabins are decorated with a mountain country flair. Handmade quilts and dust ruffles of calicos and gingham fit well with the mountain decors. Our Inn's Library and comfortable Lobby, each with a massive stone fireplace, welcome guests to pause for friendly conversation or to just curl up with a book. As a bed and breakfast country inn, all rates include our delightful gourmet breakfast each morning and guests are welcome to get to know one another over complimentary bedtime snacks in the evening. Reservations are guaranteed by advance deposit or by Mastercard, Visa, or Discover. Please see the September 1995 issue of DIVERSION magazine featuring The Baldpate Inn as one of the 19 Best American Inns, and the August 1990 issue of COUNTRY INNS magazine for their features of The Baldpate Inn as the Affordable Luxury of the Month. The past several years Baldpate has been selected by COUNTRY LIVING magazine as one of their featured Inns Across America. Dining Room: For more that 20 years the Baldpate's Dining Room was rated as a 5-star Duncan Hines restaurant. Today our specialty salad buffet with homemade soups, breads, and pies, has once again brought highest honors from the local community as well as the touring public. Travelers especially love the refreshing change that our soup and salad menu offers with the bonus in our sunporch dining room of a treetop view of the mountain valley. We are pleased to cater special meetings, wedding, receptions and dinner parties for groups of up to 100 persons. Please see the June 2001 issue of TASTE OF HOME, January 1995 issue of BON APPETIT and the April 1992 issue of WOMAN'S DAY magazines for their focus on the Baldpate Inn Dining Room. We are most honored by the designation as a 'favorite' in FROMMER'S COLORADO guide. Collections: The Baldpate Inn is probably most famous as home for several unparalleled collections. The world renowned Baldpate Key Collection is displayed from the walls and ceiling of the Inn's Key Room. Among the thousands are the keys to Westminster Abbey, Fort Knox, Hitler's desk, and Jack Benny's dressing room. Keys as diverse as that for a submarine, jail cell, or a castle are found in the collection along with keys from virtually every country in the world. Visitors are invited to become part of the Baldpate Key Collection by donating their own key. The Baldpate Photograph Collection is equally as noteworthy. Lining the walls of our dining rooms, you will find fascinating autographed photographs of presidents, movie stars, and many historic world figures. Both collections are open to the public at no charge. Please see the December 1990 issue of ANTIQUES & COLLECTING, October 1993 FORBES, or the November 1994 MOTORHOME magazines for their feature stories on The Baldpate Key & Photograph Collections. |
